Start with an interesting looking bit of wood. This is a of piece Apple Wood.

ree

Plane it flat.

ree

Mark your knife out.

ree

Cut using a bandsaw.

ree

Now you have a rough blank to start working on.

ree

Mark out how thick the blade is going to be.

ree

Cut along lines.

ree

Mark where the shoulder is going to be.

ree

Cut away excess sides.

ree

Start shaping the handle with a Japanese saw rasp.

ree

Starting to look closer to the shape i'd like

ree

Plane the blade flat.

ree

Now the fun part, sanding, sanding, sanding and more sanding.

ree

Ooooo Smooth.

ree

Now time to put an edge on the blade using a spoke plane.

ree

Now my favourite part of the build, adding the mineral oil which protects the wood and brings out the grain.

ree

5 Coats of oil later and there we have it.
